The Canadian Train…

Image
Three days on a unique train. Toronto to Jasper, 2237 miles, three time zones and lots of good food. A sociable if crazy trip and just surreal at times! Ready to get off after those 72 hours but certainly memorable.  Starting from Toronto Station Day 2 - Sioux Lookout - crossing the Canadian shield and getting colder Food was great! End of day 3 - crossing the Prairies The Dome car was the best place for the view Dawn on the morning of the fourth day. The Rockies come into view… …and the snow After 72 hours and 6 minutes we arrive in freezing Jasper. Relieved to be getting off but a great adventure!

Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island has been on Shani’s list of places to visit for as long as she can remember. From flying into Halifax and the drive over to PEI seeing the amazing colours of the fall it has exceeded all expectations. We have been staying in a beautiful tiny house with the sea visible from both the front and the back and from here enjoyed both beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Highlights from this time are the visit to the Green Gables Heritage place, enjoying the history of LM Montgomery and how her life influenced the writing of Anne of Green Gables. The house she based the novel on and the scenic walks around the property down Lovers Lane and the Haunted Wood. There are many lighthouses and beautiful beaches that we have enjoyed visiting, on warm days having a paddle and colder days enjoying bigger waves. We have also enjoyed walks (and runs) in the woods taking in the amazing blazing red, orange and gold shining through the trees in the sunlight Today is Thanksgiving in Canada an...

Peak Pilgrimage

One of the things I’ve wanted to do this year is a pilgrimage. A long but slow walk with space to reflect and soak in the journey. This week I have walked the Peak Pilgrimage , sleeping by the trail and in a youth hostel and taking it slowly for a few days. Something a little different! The guide says it is “designed as a spiritual experience, the trail explores limestone dales, historic villages, and churches, including those connected to the Eyam plague of 1665. It offers a mix of natural beauty and significant history, making it a restorative and accessible journey” Here are my brief notes and a few photos from each day. Peak Pilgrimage day 1 Ashbourne (and Ilam) to Alstonefield. Today after the train and bus to Ashbourne I walked to the ‘official’ start at Ilam. A lovely quiet walk by the Dove. Then busy Ilam and even busier Dovedale! But great to see so many people enjoying the countryside. Dinner in the community pub in Alstonefield tonight. Pub card machine not working. Glad...
